As a busy mom with four kids finding a meal that is quick to make and everyone will eat isn’t always easy. However, tacos are one of those “go to” meals. With the different ways you can add toppings to your tacos there’s something everyone will love. There’s options for the chicken and the beef lover as well. When I was given the opportunity to try out a taco kit from Old El Paso I knew I had to do it.
I have used Old El Paso taco shells and seasoning before. I mean they are a Box Tops 4 Education participant after all. It’s hard to walk down an aisle in the grocery store with my kids without them saying, “Mom, Box Tops!” So when Old El Paso is on sale I do buy their seasoning mix. However, I also got their fajita kit (which I had never tried before), an avocado keeper, a food chopper and storage set and a collapsible picnic basket. Needless to say when I opened the box I was very excited. I had to get tacos on the menu pronto.
When I make tacos I make it with ground meat and cut up chicken. I personally have never been a fan of ground meat and most of my children are following suit, but my husband likes ground meat. So I make ground meat mostly for him and the rest of us have chicken. I used the taco seasoning mix I received from Old El Paso in the chicken and the fajita seasoning for the ground meat (per my husband’s request).
Old El Paso taco seasoning mix has never been my absolute favorite. It has a nice taste, but I don’t like how watery it is. It just doesn’t thicken up enough for my liking. It’s so simple to use though. Just add 2/3 cup of water to your cooked/drained meat with the package of taco seasoning mix and cook and stir until it thickens. Old El Paso taco seasoning mix has a spicy flavor . My 5 year old found it to be a little too hot, but everyone else enjoyed it. That includes my two year old who asked for seconds.
My husband really liked the Fajita seasoning. With this after cooking up the meat you just add some chopped onion and pepper and the fajita season mix and cook and stir. My husband said it had a nice flavor to it. So that was a win and probably something we will pick up again.
And did I mention, Old El Paso products have Box Tops on them? If you have school aged children, then this will be a big hit with them. I may or may not have boxes in my pantry with small square holes where a Box Top used to be because of the kids over enthusiasm with Box Top products. Any company that helps schools though is alright by me.
