The slaves had no possessions or rights.

Men would buy their wives and then the women would be like slaves. If a man took a wife, he would pay a dowry (alimony in advance). If the man didn’t like her, he couldn’t sell her. She had the right to live off of the dowry.

If you were guilty of murder that wasn’t intentional, God would create a safe place for you to flee to and remain safe from the avenger. If it was intentional murder, they were able to kill you.
