The word “Hosanna” means save now. When Jesus entered into Jerusalem, it was a fulfillment of prophecy (Zechariah 9:9; Daniel 9:25-26).
The fig tree represents the nation Israel in the scriptures. Jesus knew that the fig tree should have small, green figs by April. This was a demonstration of the nation of Israel’s curse for not bearing fruit.
People used the temple grounds as a shortcut from one part of the city to another. If a man wanted to give an offering to God, he had to change his Roman currency for temple money. The moneychangers charged a huge amount of interest for this transaction. They were robbing God and were filling their own pockets
The doves sold in the temple were much more expensive than those sold outside. The priests only accepted temple doves because they received a percentage from the sellers.
There’s a relationship between forgiveness and prayer. When God forgives us we’re more inclined to forgive others. If we’re asking for forgiveness, we can’t be holding a grudge against someone else.
