Holy Bible

Peter wept bitterly and repented and Judas repented and hung himself for betraying Jesus.

Barrabas was a notorious criminal and Pilate hoped the people would release Jesus over the release of a dangerous man. Though Pilate was the judge, he was judged by his decision to hand over Jesus. What he chose for Jesus didn’t affect Jesus because the scriptures had to be fulfilled by Jesus’ death. Pilate’s decision created his own destiny.

Prisoners were to receive forty lashes for their crime. The lashes became easier as the prisoner confessed and harder if they remained silent. Jesus had no crime to confess so he took all the lashes with a whip designed to tear flesh.

God tore the veil from top to bottom. The veil symbolized that God could not be approached by sinful man. The death of Jesus made access to God available to everyone.

Pilate told the chief priests to make Jesus’ tomb as secure as they could. They made it secure and sealed it.
