Jesus  heals a paralytic but took care of the mans spiritual needs first. Matthew was a tax collector when Jesus called him to follow him. The people hated tax collectors and couldn’t understand why Jesus would eat with tax collectors and sinners. Jesus ate with sinners to show that his forgiveness is for all people.

Fasting is commanded of us in the Old Testament but Jesus came to show us a new relationship with God. Jesus explained previously that fasting is beneficial to our spiritual development. I’ve never fasted, have any of you?

Jesus continues to heal and teaches us that our faith prompts God to respond to our needs. Sometimes we don’t understand why someone isn’t healed even though their faith is strong. The only explanation is God’s sovereign choice. Jesus never said that we would automatically be healed if we have faith.
