The Pharisees and Sadducees tried to test Jesus by asking him to show them a sign. Jesus decided to desert them and reject them, he disapproved of them. Jesus warns about that the Pharisees and Sadducees are full of spiritual hardness because of their request for a sign.

The true identity of Jesus was revealed to Peter by the spirit of grace. Jesus tells his disciples that he will die and be resurrected. Peter was trying to correct Jesus because he didn’t understand. This chapter ends with the anticipation of the transfiguration.
