Jesus speaks many parables to his followers. This was a teaching method use mostly by rabbis, it utilized common scenes from everyday life to teach new things about the kingdom of heaven.
Jesus speaks of the “wayside” which was soil hardened by humans and animals, the seed couldn’t penetrate through. The “Stoney Places” refers to very little soil resting on solid rock, the plant could only live for a short time because of the soil’s shallow depth. “Among Thorns” meant a perfect area for growth and the seeds grow wildly. ‘Good ground” refers to soil that allows prosperous growth.
The “mysteries of the kingdom of heaven” refers to new truths about the kingdom. The leaders rejected Jesus and were blinded to Jesus’ spiritual nature. Jesus explains that the kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed. Have you seen a mustard seed? They’re as small as 1 mm in diameter. Jesus is making it known that even though the seed is small it will have huge growth.
Most of these parables are self explanatory. They paint a picture of things old and new.
