This chapter brings us to John The Baptist preaching in the Judean Wilderness. There is about a 30 year gap between Matthew 2 and Matthew 3. John The Baptist and Jesus are in their early 30’s by this time.

The birth of John The Baptist was  miraculous (we will learn more about him later). He was about 6 months older than Jesus and was sent to prepare the way for Jesus. They knew each other as young children but then were no longer were in contact as they grew older.

John The Baptist knew that he was sent as a messenger to prepare the way. He knew Jesus when he arrived to be baptized. Even though he felt he was unworthy to baptize Jesus, Jesus explained that it had to be done. John then understood and as he baptized Jesus the three persons of the Trinity came together.

Whoa! That really takes my breath away. I can envision the beauty of the trinity unfolding.
